Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El Rufai, has been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services shortly after being released on bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, according to Premium Times.
El Rufai was granted bail at about 8 p.m. but was immediately taken into custody by DSS operatives who reportedly waited at the EFCC headquarters.
His arrest is said to be connected to allegations that he unlawfully intercepted the phone communications of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
The former governor, a leading figure in the African Democratic Congress, had earlier honoured an invitation by the EFCC on Monday over alleged corruption tied to his tenure in office.
He arrived at the EFCC headquarters in the company of hundreds of supporters.
The latest development follows an earlier incident last Thursday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where El Rufai reportedly narrowly avoided arrest.
After the airport episode, he accused the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, of masterminding the attempted arrest in a series of interviews.
