The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr. Moses Paul Ogigi, has rejected the outcome of the just concluded Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chris Garki, winner of the AMAC chairmanship seat. The APC also secured five of the six area council chairmanship positions in the FCT.

In a statement issued on Monday, Dr Mo said he was strengthened by what he described as a growing political movement, despite the defeat.

“I stand before you today not as a man diminished by what happened on Saturday, but as a man strengthened by a political movement,” he said.

He alleged that the election was marred by irregularities, accusing INEC of disregarding the will of voters.

“I strongly reject the announced results because they do not show what the people of Abuja really want,” he stated, citing alleged curfew restrictions, intimidation of ADC members, vote buying, and late arrival of election materials at some polling units.

Reacts to Death of Party Agent

Dr Mo also confirmed visiting the family of Musa Abubakar, an ADC party agent who reportedly died during the election in Gwagwa.

According to him, Abubakar lost his life while attempting to defend votes at his polling unit.

“There were also instances where people changed the results from polling units, and this sad situation sadly led to the death of Musa Abubakar at the Gwagwa polling unit as he was trying to defend his vote,” he said during a press conference.

He called on relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure justice.

“These actions harm the fairness of the voting process and make people lose trust in our democracy,” he added.
