The Supreme Court is set to deliver judgment on Thursday, April 30, 2036, in cases concerning leadership disputes within the African Democratic Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.
The matters have been listed on the apex court’s official schedule, with the ADC case, marked SC/CV/180/2026, fixed for 2:00 pm, while the time for the PDP matter was not specified.
The disputes stem from internal crises within both parties. The Independent National Electoral Commission had earlier withdrawn recognition of the David Mark led leadership of the ADC, citing a Court of Appeal judgment.
INEC also declined to recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe, who had approached the court seeking to be declared national chairman.
The electoral body stated that it would suspend recognition of both factions and refrain from monitoring any conventions or congresses organised by them pending the final determination of the case.
In the case involving the Peoples Democratic Party, the Supreme Court is expected to rule on an appeal seeking to validate the outcome of the party’s national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.
The appellants, a faction led by Taminu Turaki, are asking the apex court to overturn the decisions of the Abuja Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, which nullified the conduct of the Ibadan convention.
