The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has approved a waiver exempting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from participating in the party’s screening process ahead of its presidential primary election.

The decision was reached during the party’s 188th National Working Committee meeting held in Abuja.

In a statement issued by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the party explained that Tinubu would be regarded “as duly screened in accordance with the Constitution of the Party for the purpose of participation in the upcoming primary elections.”

According to the statement, the committee considered the broad endorsement already received by the president from influential stakeholders within the party, including the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly, and other APC organs during the party’s National Summit held on May 22, 2025, alongside other statutory gatherings.

“The NWC noted that the President has received overwhelming endorsement and vote of confidence from critical stakeholders of the Party, including the Progressive Governors Forum, the leadership and members of the National Assembly, and other organs of the Party at the APC National Summit of May 22, 2025, and other major statutory events of the Party.

“It noted further that, as the incumbent President, and leader of our great Party, having been duly screened and cleared ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries, requiring his physical appearance before a screening committee, at this time, would be redundant and unnecessary,” the statement added.

The development signals growing institutional support within the ruling party for Tinubu’s expected bid ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
