National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ajibola Basiru, has stated that politicians seeking electoral victory in Nigeria must align with the ruling party.
According to Basiru, the APC remains the most formidable political platform in the country aside from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, because of its proven record in national elections.
He argued that the ruling party continues to stand out as the strongest political machinery capable of delivering electoral success.
Basiru also dismissed the emerging coalition movements positioning themselves against the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that they have yet to demonstrate any meaningful electoral strength.
Speaking during an interview with Arise News, he said, “Aside from the PDP, APC remains the strongest political machinery for winning elections in Nigeria today.
“Many of the groups calling themselves coalitions are yet to prove themselves as credible electoral forces, and for now, they appear more like political distractions than serious alternatives.”
The APC came to power in 2015 following the merger of three major opposition parties, the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, and the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP.
The coalition adopted former President Muhammadu Buhari as its presidential candidate, who went on to defeat incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan in a historic election widely regarded as the first peaceful transfer of power from a ruling party to an opposition party in Nigeria’s democratic history.
