A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Rotimi Amaechi, has outlined part of his proposed agenda should he emerge president of Nigeria.
Speaking after appearing before the ADC presidential screening committee, Amaechi stated that he would abolish the federal character system and replace indigenship with citizenship.
The former Minister of Transportation made the remarks shortly after arriving at the screening venue dressed in traditional Niger Delta attire.
According to him, Nigeria must move beyond ethnic and religious divisions in order to build a stronger sense of national identity.
He said, “If I become president, I’ll abolish indigenship and allow only citizenship.
“All these I’m west, I’m north, I’m east, and you’re calling people to vote for you based on religion.
“I’ll abolish federal character. Every Nigerian will be a member of the federation.”
