The Federal Government has confirmed Nigeria’s first case of Ebola Virus Disease in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, following the laboratory confirmation of an infected woman on October 20, 2026.
The patient recently arrived in Nigeria on an international flight from Uganda and was admitted to a private hospital in the FCT, where she received medical care for several days.
She is currently isolated and receiving treatment, according to the government.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, disclosed that contact tracing had commenced, with 44 close contacts identified so far.
Those identified include healthcare workers, patients, caregivers and people who may have had contact with the patient during travel.
The Federal Government said it was working with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, and FCT health authorities to contain the infection and prevent further transmission.
Authorities have urged Nigerians to remain calm and vigilant, maintain regular hand hygiene and promptly report suspected exposure or symptoms to public health officials.
The government also advised members of the public to seek guidance from the NCDC for information and suspected case reporting.
The NCDC’s toll free call centre is available around the clock on 6232.
