Former Kano State Governor and leader of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed claims that he is secretly working for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Kwankwaso made the clarification during an interview with Global TV, describing those behind the allegation as individuals who lack a proper understanding of politics.

“Only fools will believe that we are working for Tinubu. My supporters and I are working for the NDC and for what we believe will benefit Nigerians,” he said.

The former presidential candidate explained that although he has maintained a long standing relationship with Tinubu, it does not suggest they share the same political ideology or agenda.

According to him, both politicians have known each other for many years but belong to different political camps.

Kwankwaso also accused some close associates of the president of allegedly hiding the true condition of the country from him.

He claimed that rather than focusing on addressing Nigeria’s economic and security challenges, some presidential aides are more interested in persuading governors and political figures to defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The NDC leader further spoke about his political alliance with Peter Obi within the emerging coalition movement.

Kwankwaso stated that the decision to support Obi followed extensive consultations and political calculations, adding that the coalition considered him the most suitable candidate from southern Nigeria.

He noted that the coalition still has sufficient time ahead of the 2027 general election to engage Nigerians and address rumours being circulated against the alliance.

According to him, the coalition is committed to offering quality leadership and presenting Nigerians with an alternative to the country’s current challenges.
