Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, has stated that President Bola Tinubu could ultimately prove to be a better leader for Nigeria than the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar.

Lawal warned that an Atiku presidency would be harmful to the country, insisting that Tinubu would perform better if given another term in office in 2027.

In a statement personally signed by him, the former SGF said his convictions would not allow him to support what he described as “the evil that Atiku and his people represent.”

“I believe Tinubu might, comparatively speaking, end up a better Nigerian president than Atiku could ever be,” he said.

Lawal also criticised some northern political leaders for supporting Atiku despite the persistent challenges of poverty and insecurity confronting the region.

He questioned the logic behind backing a northern presidential candidate when the region should be focused on producing leadership capable of reversing its socio economic and security challenges.

“I would have thought that when Northerners insist on a northern president, they would be thinking of one that will stop the downward spiral into poverty and insecurity, not an ineptocrat like Atiku,” he said.

The former SGF disclosed that he would spend the coming weeks consulting political associates and allies on strategies aimed at preventing Atiku from emerging president in the 2027 election.

“I will be tweaking my plans for the future and consulting with like minded colleagues on how to stop this incompetent octogenarian from coming close to the presidential office,” he said.
