National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda has explained that his recent visit to Senator Rufai Hanga was aimed at fostering peace, unity and development in Kano State.
Yilwatda made the clarification in a statement on Thursday after paying a courtesy visit to the senator, who is a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, and a longtime ally of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
According to the APC chairman, their discussions centered on issues affecting Kano State and the need for political leaders to work together regardless of party affiliation.
“Our discussions were cordial and focused on the unity, peace, stability and future of Kano State,” Yilwatda said.
He stressed that political differences should not prevent leaders from collaborating in the interest of the people, adding that Nigeria would make greater progress if leaders embraced dialogue and cooperation instead of partisan rivalry.
“Nigeria’s progress is best served when we build bridges of understanding, encourage constructive dialogue and place the welfare of citizens above partisan considerations,” he added.
The visit comes amid reported tensions between Senator Hanga and Kwankwaso following a series of comments made by the lawmaker.
Hanga had expressed dissatisfaction after losing his party’s governorship ticket to Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and also alleged that Kwankwaso planned to hand the Kano governorship ticket to his son, Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
