Arise TV host, Rufai Oseni, has criticised the ongoing exchange between Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Federal Government over the abduction of pupils and teachers rescued from Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

Oseni described the blame game between both sides as unnecessary, urging authorities to focus on finding lasting solutions to insecurity rather than engaging in political arguments.

Makinde had on Monday, after receiving the rescued victims from the military, called on the United Nations to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abduction.

The governor’s position attracted criticism from officials of the Federal Government and members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who argued that Nigeria has the capacity to handle its internal security matters.

Makinde had also suggested that the abduction could be connected to his political ambition, noting that the incident occurred shortly after he declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Reacting during Arise TV’s Morning Show, Oseni questioned the relevance of the political arguments, stressing that the priority should be addressing the security challenges that led to the incident.

He said that while calls for investigations are legitimate, attention should now be directed toward preventing future occurrences and improving security.

Oseni referenced previous security concerns in Oyo State, arguing that political explanations should not overshadow the need for practical solutions.

“The point that Makinde keeps making that it’s because he declared for the presidency and all of that, what was Sunday Igboho fighting for at that time? Was it not the killing of people in Oyo State? Was Makinde not the governor then?” Oseni said.

He added that the incident had already happened and that efforts should focus on ensuring such occurrences do not happen again.
