Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El Rufai, has threatened to take legal action against the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, over alleged defamatory remarks made during a recent television interview.
El Rufai, through his legal team, issued a formal letter of claim demanding an immediate retraction of the alleged defamatory statements, an unreserved apology and the preservation of relevant evidence.
The letter, dated September 7, 2026, was issued by the Chambers of Ubong Akpan on behalf of the former governor.
El Rufai’s lawyers took exception to several statements allegedly made by Musa during a television programme broadcast on September 3, 2026.
According to the legal team, the remarks touched on issues including banditry, killings, demolitions, ransom payments and El Rufai’s alleged conduct during his tenure as Kaduna State governor.
The lawyers described the statements as defamatory and noted that the broadcast remains accessible through terrestrial and satellite television as well as online streaming platforms.
They consequently demanded that Musa retract the statements and issue an unreserved apology to El Rufai.
The legal team also demanded the preservation of relevant recordings, transcripts and other materials connected to the broadcast.
El Rufai’s lawyers gave the Defence Minister and his representatives 24 hours to acknowledge receipt of the letter.
They further gave Musa seven days to provide a substantive written response to the demands.
The former governor, through his lawyers, warned that he reserves the right to pursue all available legal remedies if the matter is not resolved within the stipulated period.
