Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate Peter Obi has admitted that there is no evidence to prove his claim that he won the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Africa, Obi maintained that he believes he won the election.

When pressed for evidence to support his claim, the former Anambra State governor said, “There’s no evidence. Everything is not based on evidence.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the 2023 presidential election, while Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, came second and Obi finished third.

Obi and Atiku challenged the election outcome at the Presidential Election Petition Court, but their petitions were dismissed.

The Supreme Court subsequently upheld Tinubu’s victory.

During the BBC interview, Obi also addressed his position on fuel subsidy, maintaining that his stance had not changed despite criticism that his comments on the issue had shifted.
