Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said the pain of last season’s UEFA Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint Germain will remain with him forever.
PSG defeated Arsenal 4 to 3 on penalties after a 1 to 1 draw in the Champions League final at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.
Arsenal took an early lead through Kai Havertz, who scored in the sixth minute. However, the Gunners adopted a defensive approach as the match progressed, allowing PSG to dominate possession with more than 70 per cent of the ball.
The French side eventually equalised in the 65th minute through an Ousmane Dembélé penalty.
Reflecting on the defeat, Arteta said the experience had left a lasting mark on him.
“I still have that poison in my vein,” the Arsenal manager said, describing the lingering pain of losing the final.
