The Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for ensuring the release of funds to the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) for the maintenance and repair of federal roads across the country.
Abe, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on FERMA, made the commendation while speaking to newsmen shortly after inspecting repair works on Ayam/Obuku/ Umuosi/Obeaku and Mgboji roads in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
He stated that more roads will receive the attention of FERMA as funds have been made available towards making roads in the country safer and conducive for motorists.
The Senator further stated that FERMA, as an interventionist agency will continue to deliver quality roads that will improve the lives of people.
Abe said, “Personally, I am grateful to President Muhammadu Buhari and the management of Federal Road Maintenance Agency and other stakeholders who have made this possible for the people of this local government to be remembered at this time and to improve the quality of their own lives.”
“The whole thing about government is that government is about the people. So when we continue to create distractions that keep people in bondage, it does not help the country. The important thing is that wherever we can intervene to make life livable for Nigerians we should do so and we should do so as quickly as possible.”
“So for me, am just full of gratitude and I just want to encourage FERMA because this didn’t happen here alone, it happened in several places across this country where people could not move and FERMA intervened to make it possible for Nigerians to continue to move.”
“And more of that is going to happen in the weeks ahead because the president has authorised the release of funds to FERMA. They are already on-going projects, maintaining federal roads across the country that will resume in the next couple of weeks.”
Meanwhile, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, has said the visit of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye to Ogoni will restore peace and bring prosperity to the people.
Abe, who disclosed this while speaking at the Ogoni Gospel Crusade, held in Bori, Headquarters of Khana Local Government Area of the State, expressed hope that the land which has suffered years of neglect and under development will begin to experience development and transformation.
The Senator stated that the prayers and supplications of Christian leaders in Ogoni land is crucial to the spiritual upliftment of the people, declaring that the political class in Ogoni will complement the effort of the spiritual leaders in ensuring lasting peace in the area.
He said, “It is our prayer that we have peace. My happiness is that men of God have been coming here and their prayers and supplications for the land are crucial and important to the spiritual upliftment of the people. So we are happy that he has been here and we pray that God will hear all our prayers.”
“I believe that by the grace of God it takes our collective efforts and then when the people come out like this and hear this message of peace, love and hope, it makes our own task easier because when we talk about peace we will be keying into what the people already want. So we believe that these things have an impact and we will continue to pray that God will help us.”
