Factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, said in Abuja on Tuesday, that he would not take sides in the conflict over the choice of the party’s candidate by the Independence Nation Electoral Commission for the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State.

Sheriff made his position known in a statement signed by his Media Adviser,  Mallam Inuwa Bwala in Abuja on Tuesday Sheriff said the controversies linking him to the submission of names of different candidates of the party for the election was unnecessary.

Sheriff’s faction of the party was believed to be behind the submission of the name of Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim to the commission while the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led faction submitted the name of Mr. Eyitayo Jegede(SAN).

Bwala said, “Sheriff wishes to state that, as a law abiding leader, he is bound by whoever INEC publishes (as the candidate of the PDP) as both candidates in contention are respectable members of the PDP, and he will treat their issues based on merits and in accordance with the law.”
