Rivers people from all walks of life on Friday marched through the streets of Port Harcourt in an overwhelming show of support for Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, even as they endorsed his re-election.
The march tagged Walk4Wike Season Three took off from the Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, through Aba Road and Azikiwe Road before terminating at the Government House Port Harcourt.
Numbering several thousands, the crowd had lawyers, media professionals, engineers, teachers, civil servants, medical practitioners, students, senior politicians, lawmakers, women and youth groups.
Coordinated by D-Source Connect , the groups declared that their support for Governor Wike is premised on his outstanding projects delivery across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
Coordinator of the D-Source Connect, Dike Vincent Amadi stated that Rivers People have reiterated their support for the governor through the extensive walk.
He said: “We have come to thank the governor for redefining development in Rivers State. We have come to tell the governor thank you for making Rivers State a development hub. We have come to thank the governor for empowering our youths, women and providing jobs for our youths.
“We have come to say that come March 2019, Rivers Youths and people will come out in our numbers and re-elect His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and Dr Mrs Ipalibo Harry Banigo”.
He added that in February 2019, Rivers people will join other Nigerians to vote out President Muhammadu Buhari.
The group condemned the invasion of the training camp of the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency by the Nigerian Army.
“We are condemning in strong terms the invasion of the training camp of the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency. That programme is meant to empower the youths.
“The enemies of democracy who do not want Wike to succeed have gone to the camp to chase away youths of Rivers State who went for training “, he said.
In his remarks, Chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Hon Obinna Anyanwu said Rivers youths trooped out enmasse to declare their support for Governor Wike.
He said that Rivers youths will work for the re-election of Governor Wike and defend their votes to ensure he is not rigged out.
Responding, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike said that the people of Rivers State have spoken with one voice that they want his administration to continue with the job of development.
Represented by Deputy Governor Ipalibo Harry Banigo, the Rivers State Governor assured that he will continue with his mass development of the state.
He said: “I am happy that young people are taking the lead in Rivers State. Today, you have come out to stand by the truth.
“Do not relent in your efforts to re-elect this workaholic administration. We appreciate your support. It spurs us to intensify our work for the people”.
He urged his supporters to premise their campaign on the outstanding achievements scattered across the state.
The governor said the youths must work towards sacking the non-performing APC Federal Government in 2019.
Governor Wike also advised the youths to be peaceful in their campaign for him, saying that they should not be involved in any untoward actions.
