Abia Government on Wednesday revealed its resolve to conduct Local Government (LG) elections before the end of 2016.
Mr Boni Iwuoha ,Commissioner for Information made this known in Umuahia while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state executive council meeting.
Iwuoha said that the Council took the decision after giving thorough consideration to the implications ,effects ,consequences and development that were common with LG elections.
According to him the decision to conduct the elections was not informed by revenue generation,stressing that the state government wanted Abia to record advancements in its polity.
He said that the state government had ordered Abia state independent electoral commission (ABSIEC) to provide a template on “how and when the election will hold” in line with the constitution of Nigeria.
On revenue,Iwuoha said that the state government was poised to key into the Federal Government’s(FG) revenue collection harmonisation programme for every state of the federation.
“Abia government has received and accepted an internally generated revenue (IGR) policy document which was produced by the IGR committee,
“And it is believed that this policy will address all issues relating to revenue collection over time is settled once”,he added.
