The newly 3,000 defected members and supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Abia state, have backed the emergence of Hon. Chinedum Orji, as speaker of the inaugurated 7th Abia House of Assembly.

The APGA defectors posited that they backed the emergence of the ex-Majority leader(Orji), as speaker, because of his capacity and competence, haven’t be tested and trusted during his first term in the State House of Assembly.

The leader of the defectors and the House of Assembly candidate of the party(APGA), in the last election, Chief Emeka Utah, while speaking with newsmen in a press conference held on Wednesday, in Umuahia, the state capital, confided that the new speaker would perform and assist the State government in making laws that will provide democratic dividends to the doorsteps of Abia people.

He said, “We believe that the new speaker of the present 7th Abia state House of Assembly, will work hard to complement the efforts of the Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration to actualize its transformation agenda for the state.

” We are equally calling on the people of the state to continue to render their unflinching supports to the Executive and Legislative arms of governments to enable them achieve its set goals for the economic and infrastructural development of Abia”.

DAILY POST had reported last week that Hon. Chinedum Orji had emerged as speaker of the 7th Abia state House of Assembly.

Chinedum, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and also, the first son of former Governor and current Senator representing Abia central senatorial district, Theodore Orji.

In his speech, he assured his colleagues of providing good leadership.

His words, “This 7th Abia state House of Assembly shall be vibrant and result-oriented. We are the House of the people, by the people and for the people. We shall endeavour to make the people the centre-point of all our actions and decisions.

“We are therefore committed to the enactment of sound laws and legislation that will help in uplifting the lives and well-being of Ndi Abia”.

It will also be recalled that DAILY POST had reported that Chief Chukwuemeka Utah, the APGA House of Assembly candidate for Umuahia north state constituency seat in the last election, and that of Umuahia central State constituency, Mr. Mba Ndubuisi, had dumped the party(APGA) for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Abia state.

One of the defected APGA candidate (Utah), had explained that he dumped APGA, due to the factional crisis that had already threatened the unity of the party in the state and the country at large.

He decried the manner, the national and Abia leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) manhandled the party’s 2018 primaries, asserting that the incident had caused many leaders to dump the party(APGA) for another political party.

Utah disclosed that he equally defected to PDP with 3,000 APGA members and supporters in the state.
