Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has assured the people of the state that his administration will construct critical access roads to strategic towns in the state with a view to developing the state’s economy.
Commenting on the state’s 2016 budget passed by the Rivers State House of Assembly and signed into law by him, Governor Wike said the people of the state will witness enhanced development of road infrastructure which will touch all senatorial districts of the state.

In a statement issued by Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media, the governor said that all construction of road infrastructure are geared towards the empowerment of the people.
He Said : “As we all know the provision of transport infrastructure is critical to the socio-economic advancement of any nation. Accordingly, in 2016 we intend to complete all on-going road projects and kick-start the construction of the Trans-Kalabari road network, the dualization of Ahoada – Omoku road as well as Bori Sapkenwa road.

“We shall also continue with the construction of inner city roads in Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor and the headquarters of other local government areas. Accordingly, over 53 billion naira is provided for the infrastructure development sub-sector.
“
The governor stressed that the sustained renewal of the state’s road infrastructure will ensure that headquarters of different local government areas are accessible by road to enhance the transport of agricultural produce and other economic activities in all the council headquarters.
Governor Wike added: “Given the scarcity of public resources and the huge gap in the State’s infrastructure needs, we will use the public private partnership arrangement to mobilize private sector resource for infrastructure development, especially in the areas of roads construction, power generation, education, healthcare and other viable projects.”
Governor Wike said that his administration through the necessary political will and the prudent management of resources has reached unprecedented heights in the provision of road infrastructure in Port-Harcourt, Obio-Akpor, Eleme, Ikwerre and Oyigbo Local Government Areas in the first phase of Urban Renewal Programme in the last seven months.
