My attention has been drawn to a press release by the Chairman, Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bro. Felix Obuah and signed by his Media Aide, Jerry Needam calling for my arrest for purportedly making inciting remarks over the ruling by Federal High Court I, Port Harcourt and presided over by Justice Lambo Akanbi last Thursday.

Ordinarily, my instinctive response to such a joke is to ignore it as I have done severally in the past. However, let me for once state that we are in such serious times that the likes of Felix Obuah and Jerry Needam should discard their toga of court jesters and refrain from puerile jokes that enjoy no attention from serious people.

More so, Bro. Obuah and his Aide should have come to terms with the serious dimension the total breakdown of waste management in Rivers State has assumed especially with the possible breakout of serious epidemic in Port Harcourt and environs. Curiously, rather than lose sleep on how to pull the chestnut from the fire, the hilarious duo prefers to display their uninspiring comedy before an inattentive public concerned with more serious things in life.

The APC has extensively and unequivocally made its position clear on the matter of the court ruling and there is no need to belabour it here. However, it is important to re-state that prior to the sham ruling of last Thursday, Justice Akanbi, Governor Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State House of Assembly and other relevant parties were in possession of an interim Order of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria given in writing under the hand of Hon. Justice J.T. Agbadu-Fishim, holden at Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on 22nd day of June, 2015 restraining the Governor of Rivers State, the Rivers State House of Assembly and the Attorney-General of Rivers State and their agents from dissolving, suspending, sacking terminating or in any manner whatsoever interfering with the tenure of office of the 23 Local Government Councils of Rivers State. The Order also restrained the Inspector-general of Police or his agents and proxies from enforcing any purported action detrimental to the existence of the 23 Chairmen and Councils in Rivers State.

However, I would like to advise Felix Obuah to concentrate on tackling the breakdown of refuse removal in Port Harcourt city and environs, a job his master consigned him to do. But more seriously, he should consider how best to launder billions of Naira belonging to Rivers people on behalf of his master, which is the real reason he is positioned at his present outpost – a job many consider too demeaning for the high office of a state party chairman.

Finally, there is nothing inciting in my presentation to the public other than to place the issues arising from the ruling of Justice Lambo Akanbi and its interplay with other related issues, especially as it concerns our party, the APC and the 23 Councils in Rivers State, in their proper perspective for the benefit of the public. No more.
