In Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa state, the President finally echoed words that an ample number of Nigerians arrived at a long time ago.

The president announced that most of the people he surrounded himself with in the capacity of ‘advises’ are ‘useless’ with ‘nothing meaningful to say.’

He said this during a special funeral service for the eight female politicians and their driver, who died on Valentine’s day, 2015.

During the burial, President Jonathan was puzzled that Governor Seriake Dickson had decided not to organize a state burial for the deceased, and Dickson said he was advised against it.

Jonathan nodded sagely and said he has received loads of ‘advice’ since he was deputy governor.

He said: “I am surprised when the governor (of Bayelsa) said some people asked why state burial.

“And I told the governor that more than 80 per cent of people who come to advice you have nothing to say. But just listen to them.

“From my experience as a deputy governor till today, more than 80 per cent (of advisers) have nothing to say. But you listen to everybody and do what is right for our people.”
