Poll: Army chiefs meet on security today

The Nigeria Army has scheduled the Chief of Army Staff First Quarter Annual Conference for between Monday (today) and Wednesday, March 18, 2015 in Abuja.
The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in an electronic mail that the Army leadership would exploit the opportunity of the conference to discuss the issue of the preparation for the provision of security before, during and after the general election.

He stated that the conference would also review the ongoing counter terrorism and counter insurgency operation and other internal security operations of the service in the country.

He added that issues bordering on general administration of soldiers, and the Army’s activities in the last three months would also form part of the deliberations at the meeting.

Usman added that the Army would also make projections and strategise for the next three months and the remaining months of the year in addition to considering the service’s development plan for the next 20 years.

“The conference will also project and strategise for the next quarter and the remaining part of the year and consider the Nigerian Army development plan in the next 20 years.

“Preparations for ensuring security before, during and after the 2015 General elections will also feature in the agenda.

“The conference is expected to take far reaching decisions that would place the Army in a more robust position to effectively carry out its constitutional duties,” the statement read in part.
