The gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in some villages in Arochukwu ran into a hitch as voters in many polling units refused to vote on the ground that the ballot papers and the result sheets were fake. However in some centers, while voting was in progress, rumours filtered in that the election has been cancelled, which caused more confusion. In some units some Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC ad hoc staff were alleged to be colluding with Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA agents, said they received instructions not to sign the result sheets.
At the centre in Arochukwu College of Education,( technical), suspected PDP thugs allegedly shot some one.
In Ania ward that has 25 polling units, election didn’t hold, as none of the card readers functioned, leading to the Electoral Officer to reschedule the election for Sunday.
In some areas in Uzuakoli, where 500 voters were accredited, not more than 150 ballot papers were supplied.
In ward 2 Amaeke ward, Abam, election ended and the corps member escaped with the result sheet. In ward 009 in Ohafor, there was no election because of protests against fake voting materials
At Umusi polling booth in Igbere Bende LGA, INEC gave a voters’ register that has only 46 names.
Consequently, over 200 PVC-bearing voters that are not captured in the register were disenfranchised.
