Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha has come under attacks for his comments in the media last week where he had during the launch of a campaign organization for Gov. Dickson attributed the frequent change of governors as the cause of the slow pace of development in Bayelsa State.

In a statement signed by the National President of Bayelsa APC Coalition, Dr. Kenneth Lawson Osobugha,  and Made available To PUO REPORTS the group accused the ex- governor of having set the pace for the frequent change of governors in the state.  Dr. Osobugha who condemned Alamieyeseigha’s position said that if the former governor had not abdicated his seat in very unfortunate circumstances, he would have finished second tenure.

The group said it was regrettable and a mark of insensitivity on the part of the former governor  to blame the people of the state for the situation we find ourselves in as regards the tenure of successive and previous governors. The fact remains that it is only when a governor performs creditably in the eyes of the masses that he may be called upon for a second tenure and not for a few persons who share the commonwealth of our people to declare an incumbent befitting of a second tenure. Rather than resort to media hype and propaganda occasioned by a fire brigade approach of ‘buying’ of electorates, the former governor should apologize to Bayelsans for derailing our developmental process. It is indeed surprising that Chief Alamieyeseigha would resort to cheap blackmail of describing fellow Ijaw sons and daughters as working for the North and the West.

He should explain to the people of our state what he was doing with the same people he resents today when he joined forces with them to form the defunct Action Congress party. It is very unbecoming of an elder statesman to speak from both sides of his mouth.
According to the group, ‘performance is the only thing that will guarantee a second term, even though from history, it is evident that most governors only perform well in their first tenure in order to get a second term in office, after which they become complacent.

“Incidentally, the case of Bayelsa is the same,  as the current governor, Seriake Dickson who is seeking another four years in office has nothing to show for the support and mandate the people of the state gave to him. Instead of reducing poverty, the people of Bayelsa have consistently and systematically been impoverished by Gov. Dickson, who is hiding under the guise of embarking on white elephant projects, none of which has been completed nor commissioned since four years.

Dr. Osobugha said it was politically inexpedient and a contradiction for the former governor to ask members of the newly inaugurated campaign organization to “go and sell the product, Dickson”.  He should be reminded that in the world over, it is common knowledge that a good product sells itself, and if the governor is a good product, he does not need to be forced on the people by ‘marketers ‘.  The era of deception is gone.

As BAYELSANS are wiser now. The Statement Added.

Bayelsa will go to the Polls on December 5th 2015 to elect its new Governor
