The directive of President Mohammadu Buhari yesterday on the clean-up of the Ogoniland has vindicated Gov. Amaechi and the Rivers APC.
I am very sure the news greeted members of the PDP with shock.
Recall that former governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi had brought Mr. President to Ogoni land before the elections, where he addressed the ogoni people and pledged on his honour to fully implement the UNEP report on the clean-up if elected into office.
Barely two months into the life of the new administration under President Mohammadu Buhari, the northerner they said we should “stone” has commenced the implementation of the report in earnest.
Meanwhile, that “our son” had that report staring at him for years but refused to implement it because of his hate for Chibuike Amaechi and rivers people in general.
They further cajoled the Ogoni people when Wike’s campaign train entered the Ogoni land.
He looked into the eyes of the people and lied to them.
He specifically said
“Mr. President has asked me to tell you that the clean up of ogoni land shall commence in two weeks”
Conversely, former President Jonathan, “our brother” stayed in office for two months after he lost the election in March, yet nothing was done.
An Ogoni son, Kenneth Kobani, was appointed as Minister and member of the federal executive council, yet nothing was heard about the UNEP report nor was Kenneth Kobani able to explore the fortunes of his ministry to support the Ogoni people in any form.
Now I ask, between former President Jonathan, Kenneth Kobani, Nyesom Wike and their co-travellers in the PDP on the one side and President Mohammadu Buhari, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, Senator magnus Ngei Abe and the APC on the other side.
Which of these groups can be said to be sincerely committed to putting smiles on the faces of the Ogoni people?
I therefore implore the Ogoni people both at home and abroad to identify with President Buhari and his Party and see to the successful implementation of the UNEP report as this is just a tip of the iceberg of good things to come.
