Ebonyi Assembly Approves N8.4bn LOAN Request For Governor Dave Umahi

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has approved the proposal buy the Dave Umahi-led administration to take three loans from the Central Bank of Nigeria for various purposes.
The letters sent to the Assembly by the governor was read and approved during Thursday’s plenary.
The approved loans include a N4.4 billion salary bailout from the CBN, N2bn for micro and medium scale enterprises development fund and N2bn for rice production.

The Assembly Leader, Hon. Joseph Nwaobasi, read the letters from the governor, and the lawmakers accepted as a working document after which they dissolved into committee of the whole house to deliberate on the requests.

The Assembly Minority Leader, Hon. Maria Nwachi, during the session, urged the state government to ensure that the loans are utilized for the purposes they are given so as to aid the poor farmers and not end up in private pockets of a few individuals.
Hon. Augusta Ude, who is the chairman of the Assembly’ Committee on Agriculture, promised that the committee will monitor the funds when procured to ensure they are not diverted.
The loan requests of the governor were later put to vote by the Speaker, Hon. Ogbonnaya Nwifuru, after the lawmakers spoke in favour and they were unanimously affirmed.
