Wike Donates Cars To Rivers Traditioner Rulers

The Rivers State Government has donated a fleet of vehicles to the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers and Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
The Rivers State Governor, who was represented by theChief of Staff, Government House, Port-Harcourt, Chief Emeka Woke, made the presentation today at the secretariat of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council in Port-Harcourt.

His words: : “We are here to formally present operational vehicles to the Rivers State Traditional Council of Chiefs, in fulfillment of his Excellency’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions and also ensure that people of Rivers State get the dividends of democracy”.
A total of seven vehicles were presented to the traditional rulers, namely: five Toyota Corolla Saloon Cars, one Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep and one Toyota Haice 18-Seater bus.
The Amayanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dandison Jaja who is also the Chairman of the Council, expressed his gratitude and surprise that the gifts were coming at a time the state was experiencing some financial difficulties, promising that the gesture will be reciprocated.
The Royal Father said the traditional institutions in the state were already performing their roles of counseling the administration on people and community related issues but stressed that the state’s infrastructure needed revamping and remodeling.
The Amayanbo of Opobo Kingdom also expressed optimism that the governor will resume the suspended quarterly meetings of traditional rulers in the state this year.
In his words, “We are on a firmer ground to deliver all that is necessary to support this government and to make sure that the people benefit maximally from all that are in stock for us.”
Earlier in the day, the Governor had donated a brand new 18 –Seater Toyota HIACE bus to the Rivers State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN).
Governor Wike said the gesture was in fulfillment of a promise he made to a delegation of the association when it paid him a courtesy call in July.
The Rivers State Governor said it was aware of the importance of SWAN as a body and a member of the fourth estate of the realm and its contributions to the development of sports in the country.
His words: “ We believe that our administration is determined and focused to ensuring that we partner with you to make Rivers State number one in sports in Nigeria. “
The Governor also reminded SWAN that his administration had cleared the backlog of salaries owed the state-owned football teams by the previous administration.
Alhaji Seidu Abubakar, the National President of SWAN, who received the vehicle on the behalf the Rivers State Chapter President, Mr. Honor Sirawoo, promised that the vehicle will serve the purpose for which it was given.
