Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has warned contractors handling road and other projects for the state Government not to give any money to any body on his behalf to retain their contracts but rather to do quality job that would stand the test of time.
He was speaking at a meeting he held with the contractors at the Government House, Umuahia.
According to him, he has not mandated anyone to act as his agent, pointing out that his concern is to ensure that each contractor leaves his signature on any job assigned to him.
He said the essence of the meeting is to review activities and appraise what has been done so far and how to move forward.
The Governor said he was aware of the efforts of the contractors to meet deadline and assured them that government will continue to do business with those that are diligent.
He directed that the outstanding road contracts be reviewed as his government will not abandon any of the road projects.
The Governor further stated that his government will not give out new road contracts until it is through with the 31 that are ongoing.
In their reactions, some of the contractors including Obioma Davies and Eze Henry Ezekwem assured the Governor of their readiness to do quality job but pleaded with him to release more funds to them.
