Wike To Commence Construction Of Rural Roads In January

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has announced that his administration will commence the construction of rural and semi-urban roads across the state in January, 2016.

Governor Wike said that by the time his administration completes the first term of four years, majority of Rivers communities would have been completely transformed the infrastructural base of the state.
Addressing journalists after inspecting the Woji-Akpajo road with bridges on Thursday in Port Harcourt, Governor Wike said that the dualisation of the Sakpenwa-Kpopie-Bori road will be kick-started in January, 2016.
He said : “The design of the Sakpenwa-Kpopie-Bori road is ready. I have directed the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works to advertise the road. Despite our financial constraint, we shall complete the road.
“We started with Port Harcourt and the adjoining urban areas because these are the places people see when they arrive Rivers State. Now that we have achieved the required milestone, we shall face the hinterland “.
Commenting on the road inspection, Governor Wike noted that his administration drove the construction of the Woji-Akpajo road with bridges from 30percent to over 70 percent.
He said the first bridge on the road will be ready by December ending, while the road will be tolled to generate revenue. Governor Wike said that the new Road will serve as an alternative to Trans-Amadi road in Port Harcourt and would hasten movement into the city.
Also on Thursday, Governor Wike inspected work at the Nkpogu -LNG road with bridge. The governor expressed happiness that the beams on the bridge has been laid.
