Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the April 11 2015 governorship election, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, on Tuesday said recent events in the state has confirmed his fears that some people are planning to attack members of his party in the March 19, 2016 rerun elections in the state.

Peterside, who decried the recent killings in the state as well as the burning down of Senator Magnus Abe’s constituency office in Ogoniland said Rivers state should be treated as a ‘special situation’ if the institution of government places value on human lives.Describing the situation as a worrisome trend, Peterside also called on the relevant authorities to wade into the situation

“The situation is a worrisome trend. Recall that that 24 persons were killed in Omoku last week and now miscreants attacked the army in Yeghe and burnt down the office of Senator Magnus Abe.”
“Each time they visit violence on the people without a response from the security agencies, it diminishes the confidence of the people on the institution of government. What has happened in the past few days in Rivers state is an indicator that some people are planning to visit maximum violence on our people

“It is now left for government to rise up and defend the people. Without doubt, Rivers state should be treated as a special situation if we want votes of the people to count and if we place and value on human lives,” he said.
