The All Progressives Congress has set up a three-man panel to resolve the crisis in the Kano State chapter of the party.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has been locked in a fierce battle with his predecessor Rabiu Kwankwaso over the control of the APC in the state.
But the National Chairman of the party Chief John Odigie-Oyegun says the APC National Secretary Mai Mala Buni; National Organising Secretary Osita Izunaso; and Vice-Chairman Lawan Shuiabu (North) had been mandated to resolve the crisis.
Odigie-Oyegun said this while responding to a presentation by a delegation of the party from Kano at the national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday.
The former Edo State governor said, “We have only one governor in Kano State, there is no doubt about this. It is in our interest that the challenge between this two of our leaders does not degenerate further.
“It is important for the party’s leadership in Kano to be united behind the governor, especially now that resources are very, very lean.
“Let me warn that the greatest disservice we can do to ourselves is to have internal wars, especially in a state as crucial as Kano.”
Spokesman for the party in the state, Bashir Karaye, in a presentation on behalf of the delegation of over 100 elected and appointed party members including senators, House of Representatives members, state House of Assembly members, Commissioners and Special Advisers from Kano, condemned Kwankwaso’s behaviour during his last visit to the state.
According to Karaye, while many people within and outside the state condole with the governor over the death of his mother, Kwankwaso even refused to visit him.
He said, “Sadly and unfortunately, the purported visit by Senator Kwankwaso was to say the least a misnomer to cultural and religious norms and had assaulted the person of the governor and his government.”
Meanwhile, governors from the North-West held a closed-door meeting at the Maitama residence of Kwankwaso late on Monday in a bid to reconcile the senator with the governor.
Although both men attended the meeting and posed for photographs afterwards, none of them spoke to reporters.
