7 memories every Nigerian has from a secondary school7 memories every Nigerian has from a secondary school

Schooling in Nigeria sure has its ups and downs; but amidst these one cannot help remembering the beautiful times had in the secondary schools growing up.

Going to a secondary is always exciting for most children as they simply get tired of the primary school life. The euphoria of being in a secondary school washes away quickly as the teenagers warm into the secondary school educational system.
Everyone who has ever passed through secondary school once dreamt of being in senior class. Firstly, the uniform was different and seemed finer, and then the senior classes were the ruling classes in school. This is where you will find all the prefects and school heads.
You also have the opportunity to be called ‘senior’ and you can send ‘juniors’ on errand as you deem fit. Senior secondary schools were even more interesting if you attended a government secondary school. Those who went to private schools may not be able to relate with most of the things that would be raised here.
Nevertheless, their friends from the public schools might have shared some of their experiences with them. Find some of the memories of secondary school you may have below:

1. Your first day as a senior

SS1 class marks the beginning of students’ sojourn into the senior school. This is the day your uniform changes from that of a junior secondary school student. For girls, it is usually skirt and blouse and long trousers for boys.

2. The joy of being called ‘senior’

In this new class, gone would be the days where your name was being called to address you. You would have the word ‘senior’ added as a prefix to your name. Most people get thrilled to be addressed this way after addressing others in similar manner.

3. When you have a school son or daughter

Being in senior class naturally makes you assume the role of a school mother or a school father. Most people go for a junior secondary student to bestow their love on and share things with. If your school child is rich, you enjoy the luxury as well.
4. Ability to send anyone on errand
If you attended a government school, you would understand that this part is the favorite for most seniors. You can afford to send a junior on an errand with as little as N20 and expect him to buy you things worth N100.

5. When the junior you send on errand reports you

While you may have the right to send anyone on errand, you also stand the chance to do ‘labor’ for unjustly punishing a junior. Serving labor because of a junior means the junior has entered your black book and if you are the labor prefect or friends with that prefect, you could give that junior the hardest part of the school ground to work on.

6. When you look forward to being badged

This is something that every student looks forward to. Becoming a prefect is the major highlight for being in a senior secondary class. Being badged gives you more right as a senior when dealing with juniors, it also makes you more popular and everyone wants to be associated with you.
7. Your graduation party
memories you will have of being a senior in secondary school
The final class of a senior secondary school has its challenges as you have to write most of your final exams in this class. Secondary school life becomes boring here too and students cannot wait to be out.
The graduation party is the time most of them have to behave like adults and release bottled emotions. You open up on your crush in the junior class and make the move to tell someone in your class about your feelings.
