The Peoples Democratic Party has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to evolve a means of arresting the slide in the country’s economy, adding that the generality of Nigerians are suffering.

Reiterating its position on the need to restructure the country, the party said restructuring remained the only solution to the country’s challenges.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting held on Tuesday in Akure by the leaders of the PDP in the South-West.

In the communiqué signed by the National Vice-Chairman, South-West PDP, Eddy Olafeso, and 21 other leaders, the PDP lamented the incarceration of some of its leaders by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The communiqué said, “The Federal Government must tackle the issues of unemployment, terrorism, Fulani herdsmen’s attacks, inflation, infrastructural decadence and militancy that have permeated every part of this country without actions to check the sufferings of the masses.

“The zonal chapter also calls for the implementation of measures that will ameliorate the sufferings of the masses as the APC administration has dissipated most of its energy on an anti-corruption crusade which, unfortunately, seems to be targeted at only the leaders of the opposition, particularly in the South-West.”

In the communiqué, the PDP also added that in spite of the persecution of the opposition by the APC government, it would not refrain from presenting constructive criticism to the government in order for the government to fulfil its electoral promises to Nigerians.

“Contrary to the thought of the APC-led Federal Government, we, in the South-West PDP, want the government to succeed in contributing its quota to the growth and development of this country,” the party said.
