Rivers State Governor , Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that he will continue  to  implement  that will protect the economy  of Nigeria,  irrespective  of the fact that he is not a member  of  the  ruling  party.

Governor  Wike  said that will never support  any action that will sabotage  the economy  of the country as Rivers State will be negatively  affected  by  any  dwindling  economic  fortunes.

Speaking  on day- two of the 12th All Nigeria Editors Conference in Port Harcourt on Friday, Governor Wike said  that measures put in place  by the Rivers State Government in  liaison  with other stakeholders  have ensured that the state is insulated from the  vandalism of pipelines.

He said: “I am committed  to  the  development of  Nigeria and will always work towards  protecting the economy  of this country. “

Speaking on the refusal  of INEC  to  conduct  elections in Rivers State despite the relative  peace in the  state,  Governor Wike  regretted  that  the  commission  has chosen to  mislead the nation  about the reason  why the rerun  elections  were  postponed.

He said that contrary  to  the  claims by the INEC National Chairman that the commission  was compelled to postpone  the  entire rerun elections because  of  the  burning of  sensitive  materials  at the Khana INEC office,  there were no  sensitive  materials  at the   at the time of the Induced arson.

The governor noted that the people of the state  will remain  vigilant  as INEC and certain  political  interest groups  are plotting   to manipulate the electoral process.

He insisted  that anyone plotting to rig elections  in the State would be resisted  because the APC  is not on ground  in the state.

Governor  Wike  alerted Nigerians of the plan by INEC  to  surreptitiously  release results  for  a local government  area it cancelled  during the  March rerun elections.

He noted that the illegal  plot was hatched alongside  the APC  with the intention of given undue advantage to a particular  candidate  before INEC  can organise  the outstanding  rerun elections.

Wike also said that former president Goodluck Jonathan did something special to ensure peace in the country by conceding defeat during the 2015 general election.
“Jonathan should be commended for this single act. People should emulate this move to ensure peace in the country,” the governor said.

The day two of the 12th All Nigeria Editors Conference was attended  by  the  Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, representatives  of five state governors, Federal Ministries ,  INEC  and private  sector  organisations
