The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Oyegun, has expressed fears that the in-fighting among aspirants seeking the party’s ticket might cost the party the governorship election in Ondo state.

Against the background of the series of allegations by aspirants, especially the overbearing influence by a national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu , the national chairman assured that the party would strive to ensure that next Saturday’s primary election is transparent.

Oyegun, who spoke at a peace meeting with all the APC aspirants in the Ondo gubernatorial race on Saturday, reminded them of the feat achieved by the party during the last presidential election which he said was largely due to its transparent presidential primary election.

So, it is my wish and prayer that the process in Akure will go the same way because in Akure as in the presidential primary we were figthing to remove the incumbent president in the first instance and governor in the case of Akure, and for you to do that there must be unity in your ranks that can not be compromised.

“If there is no unity then you are the one who is losing the election, it won’t be that the other party won it, you decided to donate the election to the opponent and God forbid that that should be the situation in this case, ” he said.

Oyegun said the reason for the meeting was to ensure that whatever obstacle that may be in the way of the party winning the Ondo governorship poll is removed.

. “We want you to advise us on the things you think we need to do to ensure that each and everyone of you will be happy with the process and will be sure in your heart that there will be free and fair primary.

“Let us exchange ideas and let us have suggestions from you as in what we need to do that we are not doing, as to what is creating a kind of disention leading to secretariat been locked and the rest of it, and ensure that the week that is left to the primary that we have a relatively rancur free campaign and that at the end of the day on the 27th you will all be reasonably satisfied that the process has been as clean and free,” he said.
