ABAKALIKI—THE Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday criticized Governor David Umahi-led administration for insignificantly increasing the salaries of civil servants by five percent and making a celebration out of it.

The political party which stressed that the present administration was busy taking Ebonyi people for a ride in its policies and programmes described the increment as laughable and an embarrassment to Ebonyi people.

Speaking during its emergency State Executive Council, SEC, meeting at its headquarters in Abakaliki, the embattled chairman of the party, Hon. Ben Nwobashi who charged Ebonyi people not to allow themselves to be deceived or manipulated by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-led government in the state further described the appointment of over 191 Special Technical Advisers, STAs and Technical Advisers, TAs by the present administration as unnecessary and wastage of scarce resources.

The SEC of the APC also recalled all its members who were hitherto suspended by the party including Chief. Austin Edeze and Pastor Eze Nwachukwu and demonstrated the readiness of the party to live in peace for the benefit of all its members and agenda to retake power from the PDP.

“PDP is not doing well in Ebonyi state. Five per cent increment in salaries of workers is an embarrassment to the entire workers. LGA workers are not being treated as human beings. Ebonyians should wake up. PDP has reduced Ebonyians to nothing; the civil servants are no longer being promoted, no more workshops or leave allowances. The 191 SAs is a disgrace.

Imagine, some of them are in charge of dust bins.” But in their separate reactions, the factional chairmen of APC, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu and Chief Austin Edeze stated that the embattled chairman, Nwobashi lacked the constitutional backing to call for a SEC meeting even as they described the resolutions of the meeting as null and void and of no effect. “We were never suspended; they never had the authority to suspend us. They are confused. Let them allow the Committee set up by the party to conclude its go work”.
