BENIN—THE governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the just concluded governorship election in Edo State, Osaro Onaiwu, has called for the dissolution of the Prof. Mahmood Yakubu-led Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the cancellation of the election in the state.

He accused both the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of alleged financial inducement of voters in the state, adding that the process did not conform with the electoral laws which he said were breached in the state. Onaiwu said that his lawyers will soon file a petition before the tribunal, saying that “Even the PDP, I heard they are going to the tribunal but I want to say that they have no locus standi to go to the tribunal because from day one, they were rejected and as a matter of fact PDP started the inducement of voters that day before APC outsmarted them.

“I raised this alarm earlier but INEC did not listen to me when I said they should disqualify the two parties from contesting the election, that they were using money to buy those who have vowed to vote APGA but the current economic situation made some of them fall into the temptation. But that was wrong for any party to do. We must learn to allow the people vote for candidates of their choice for the interest of this democracy.”
