OPERATIVES of the Department of State Services on Thursday rescued one of their colleagues, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Agnes, was abducted along Eleme-Agbonchia Road in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was gathered that she was in a commercial bus with about 10 passengers when the incident happened at about 5.30pm.

The gunmen were said to have stopped the commercial bus and whisked away the occupants of the vehicle, including the DSS operative.

A top security source told Southern City News that while others were allowed to go, Agnes was held back in a forest in Oyigbo Local Government Area.

“She was in a commercial vehicle with some other passengers when a group of gunmen stopped and hijacked the vehicle. They were taken into a forest in Oyigbo and later, the gunmen allowed others to go and still held onto Agnes.”

The security source explained that DSS operatives had swung into action on Wednesday, searching the forest with a view to rescuing Agnes and arresting the hoodlums.

It was gathered that the hoodlums took to their heels when they noticed the presence of some DSS operatives in the bush, even as they abandoned their victim, who was immediately rescued by her colleagues.

A DSS official, who preferred not to be mentioned, confirmed the incident and said that investigation was still ongoing with a view to apprehending those behind the abduction of the security agent.
