The people of Rivers State have condemned an alleged plan by a kitchen cabinet member of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to use the occasion of the burial of the late state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Francis Bolaji Odesanya,
to address a press conference discrediting Governor Nyesom Wike who is due to receive The Sun Newspaper Most Outstanding Best Performing Governor Award 2016 also in Lagos today.

Rising from an emergency meeting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers Elders Consultative Council described the planned press conference targeted at Wike as “childish, callous, mischievous and above all petty”.
The statement signed by the Executive Secretary of the Elders Consultative Council, Chief. Tonye Granville, said it was worrisome that in spite of the efforts of the government to work for a united, peaceful and progressive Rivers State, they said ministers was unrepentantly hatching and promoting divisive tendencies and hatred against Wike who had in the past one and a half years shown the ability, capacity and above all, love to all persons irrespective of political leanings for the development of the state.
The elders recalled that just few days ago during the state visit of Acting. President Yemi Osinbajo to the state, the minister had organised a parallel stakeholders’ meeting after the entire state had had one in honour of the visiting president and used the opportunity to advise the minister to stop the attitude of mischief aimed at wanting to pull the state down, reminding him that there was a lot the state deserved as of right from the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government and advised him to stop chasing the shadow of Wike.

The elders warned that the leaders and people of the state would no longer tolerate what they described as “mischief, hatred and wickedness” from any Rivers son no matter how highly placed as “enough is enough”.
