THERE was wild jubilation in some parts of Rivers State on Tuesday following the decision of a Federal High Court in Abuja to grant bail to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Some of the jubilant youths wore caps with Biafra flag, while some motorists honk uncontrollably to show solidarity.

On Ada George road, some youths were seen waving different sizes of Biafra flag and chanting ‘Nzogbu, Nzogbu, Enyimba Enyi to the admiration of traders, who joined in the celebration of Kanu’s release.

One of them, Charles Uwandu, who spoke with The PUNCH, said he ran into the streets in ecstasy immediately he read online that the IPOB leader had been granted bail.

Uwandu, who said there was nothing wrong with the demand for Biafra, pointed out that Kanu would remain a hero of the masses.

“We are happy that Nnamdi Kanu has finally been granted bail. We are happy because we recognise his (Kanu) fight for Igbo. We are calling on him to continue in the struggle for Biafra,” a jubilant Uwandu added.

The situation was similar in Woji Town and Slaughter in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, even as crowd gathered at various newspaper stands to discuss the release of the IPOB leader on bail.

In Oyigbo Local Government Area, there was celebration as youths from the area danced on the road, causing traffic jam on the ever busy Port Harcourt-Aba-Enugu Expressway.

One of the youths, who was seen taking a bottle of bear, said he would continue to celebrate until Kanu regained “full freedom” and a state of Biafra achieved.

“Kanu’s release on bail today shows that there is hope for the Igbo; it shows there is hope for Biafra to become a country,” the youth, who identified himself as Okechukwu, stated.

A motorist, Joshua, who spoke with our correspondent, said the group of youths that were apparently overjoyed by the news of Kanu’s bail by the court blocked the only road.

Joshua added that road users had been on the road for over an hour as a result of the gridlock caused by those  jubilant pro-Biafra youths.
