Dynamic Youth Organization of Nigeria (DYON) has thrown its weight behind Sen. Andy Uba’s aspiration to govern Anambra state. The National President of the organization, Chief Elvis Obiekwe made the disclosure while speaking in this interview.

How has your organization impacted on youths in the country?
Dynamic Youth Organization of Nigeria (DYON) is a frontline Non-Government Organization that has been in existence for over a decade. We have through our active and functional chapters in the 36 states of the federation and Abuja promoted peaceful co-existence among youths in the country. So far, we have been partnering with corporate bodies and well-meaning individuals to ensure smooth running of projects that benefit the teeming youths of our country. Also, DYON runs various youth-development programmes where we engage youths productively by channeling their abundant energy to useful ventures, because we believe that the best way to build a nation is to develop the youths.
It is unfortunate and regrettable with over 65 percent of the nation’s population youths are yet to take their proper place in the governance of Nigeria. Rather, the old generations of leaders have continued to recycle themselves since independence.  DYON is working to correct the anomaly in the remaining elections and in 2019 general elections.
We can’t continue to be a willing tool in hands of the old generation of leaders to breach public peace, especially during elections. DYON is apolitical, but that does not mean that we cannot support any candidate whose manifesto is geared towards promoting and implementing programmes and policies that will benefit the youths.
Many groups have expressed lack of confidence in the Muhammadu Buhari administration, especially in getting the nation out of recession, what is your take?
There is no need beating about the bush, Nigerians are hungry. When we talk about the number of Nigerians who are hungry, 65 percent are youths.  All the excuses this administration is putting forward make no meaning to Nigerians, what matters most to the masses is to put food on the table. So government should use the remaining two years to redeem its image by fulfilling the promises it made to Nigerians that motivated us to vote for President Buhari. Excuses can no longer be accepted.
You said DYON will ensure that credible people are elected in the remaining elections and in 2019. Anambra state governorship election is around the corner, do you have any preferred candidate?
Yes, let me reiterate that the national secretariat of DYON has been moved to Anambra state to monitor the forthcoming governorship election there. Even the state chapter has been on ground for the purpose of ensuring the best person for the job emerges as governor in November, considering the strategic position the state occupies in the South-East.
After assessment of all those who have shown interest for the governorship position, DYON has threw its weight behind Sen. Andy Uba because of his antecedents and manifesto which centre around youth empowerment and development. Therefore, if Anambra state leadership of the APC allows free, fair and transparent primaries, Sen. Uba will emerge the party’s flag bearer and he will eventually win the race.
