Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has assured that the state will not descend from its number one position in education in Nigeria.
The Governor gave the assurance while speaking at the 7th graduation ceremony of Ahuoma Anyaso Model Schools Onu, Ibinaukwu Igbere and charged parents to ensure their wards key in and fully maximize the benefits of compulsory free basic education in the state.
Dr Ikpeazu described qualitative education as the bedrock for sustainable peace and progress in our society and called on parents and guardians to make education of their children the most important parenting agenda.
Governor Ikpeazu who was represented by the Deputy Speaker Abia House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sir Cosmos Ndukwe, expressed his personal appreciation to the proprietor of the school, Mr Chima Anyaso, for taking the burden of school fees payment off many indigent parents who could not afford the cost of getting qualitative education in private schools as well as sharing in his administration’s vision of providing free qualitative education without any child being left behind.
The Governor assured that his administration, which prioritized education as one of the pillars of development, will continue to do all within its powers to ensure the state does not descend from its enviable position as number one in Nigeria’s education sector. He encouraged the graduating students to become good ambassadors of the school and the state as they embrace hard work as the only way to success.
Highlights of the event includes donation of cash and education materials to the school by the State Governor and individuals, presentation of awards, gifts and certificates to the graduating students while the three best graduating pupils received scholarships to further their studies in any Secondary School courtesy of the Friends of Chima Anyaso.
Hon. Kelechi Onuzuruike member, Umuahia North state constituency, Hon. Chima member Ezeagu state Constituency Enugu State, Chief Gabriel Elendu Executive Chairman Bende LGA and his Deputy, Hon. Obinna Oriaku Commissioner for Finance, Nnenna Obewu Onwuka, Chief Chuzzy Iboko, chief Emma Omeokwe, elder Obike, Chief Obike Imo Mascot, popular artist Kcee Limpopo and many other dignitaries witnessed the ceremony.
It will be recalled that Abia State came first as the best performing state in the recently released results for 2017 West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE). The state has maintained the first position in the last three years.
