Police Arrest Suspected Teenage Boy Linked To Imo Catholic Priest Murder

The Police in Imo State have arrested a 16-year-old boy, identified as Onyedikachi Iyaka, in connection with the murder of a Catholic priest, Reverend Father Cyriacus Onunkwo.

Onunkwo was allegedly kidnapped on September 1st, by some gunmen. His body, according to the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Chris Ezike, was discovered the following day, in a bush in Omuma Village, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State.

The suspect, Iyaka, who is from Umuchokwu Ukwu village in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of of the state, is alleged to have committed numerous  including armed robbery and trading in assorted caliber of guns and ammunition.

Parading Iyaka alongside two other suspected criminals, the state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, disclosed that 400 rounds of GPMG live ammunition, 1,016 rounds of AK – 47 live ammunition, one AK – 47 empty magazine, one K-2 empty magazine and one bullet-proof vest were recovered from the suspect.

 

The commissioner of police further disclosed that the teenage boy is suspected to be one of the major suppliers of arms to the gang that kidnapped and murdered the Late Reverend Father Onunkwo.

He added that the operatives of the Command Special Anti Robbery Squad arrested the suspect at Egbelu Awaka in Owerri North LGA following a tip-off by strategic partners.

The commissioner of Police also gave commendation letter and a sum of N1 million to 18 officers for their efforts in the arrest of other suspects who kidnapped and murdered Reverend Father Onunkwo.
