Market Executives in Abia State have been inaugurated with a charge for them to close the gap between government and traders in the State.
Inaugurating the Market Executives at Government House, Umuahia, the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu disclosed that his administration has spent more than two years in constructing roads that are of economic importance in the State.
According to the Governor, his government has opened access roads to markets in the State and would continue to do that. The Governor said he has fixed many roads that leads to markets in the State including Brass, Faulks-Ariaria, disclosing that work would soon begin in Eziukwu road to Semetary, Osusu road and others.
He further assured the traders that the ongoing Ariaria internal roads construction would be completed before the rain sets in and called on them to register and get their voters cards.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Trade & Investment, Chief Charles Ogbonnaya solicited the proper understanding and support of the Market Executives, urging them not to sabotage the government that inaugurated them.
He said government was poised to reorganise the markets and sanitize them, stating that illegal structures in the markets would be removed. He also said that illegal levies would no longer be permitted in the markets, except the ASEPA fee, stallage fee, infrastructure levy and market sanitation levies.
The Commissioner appealed to traders in Umuahia town to relocate to Ubani Ibeku market before the expiration period government gave them.
He said he was hopeful that the traders in Ariaria would appreciate what the Governor has done for them in reconstructing the internal roads. Chief Ogbonnaya urged them to register for their voter’s cards to enable them re-elect Governor.

The Market Executives later endorsed the Governor for second term in office assuring that they would vote for him.
