Rivers Government to Embark on Land Reclamation in Opobo-Nkoro

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that his administration will embark on extensive land reclamation to protect Opobo town .

The governor also declared that the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro Unity Road will be completed on schedule.

Speaking during an interactive session with the People of Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area at the Government House Port Harcourt on Friday, Governor Wike commended them for their support to the contractors handling Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro Unity Road and the General Hospital, Opobo.

Governor Wike charged other communities across the state to emulate the people of Opobo-Nkoro Local for their peaceful disposition and willingness to support developmental projects.

✏”You are not giving us problems. Rather, you cooperate with the State Government and our contractors to make sure that projects are completed.

✏”When you protect projects in your area, you get more projects. This will serve as an encouragement to other communities to support contractors in their areas”.

✏”By God’s grace, you must drive home this time around. The Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro Unity Road is unstoppable.

✏”By Monday, the contractors, will collect further money for the completion of the project. The money is available and the contract will be funded”.

On the sand-filling project, he assured the Opobo-Nkoro people that it will be executed as a top priority because the town should be preserved for greater economic activities.

Speaking on the forthcoming elections, Governor Wike reiterated his directive that the PDP primaries must be credible, saying he has no preferred candidates.

He directed that all Local Government Areas must promote the women candidates especially for vice Chairmanship and councillorship positions.

On the ban on street trading in Port Harcourt, Governor Wike said goods seized will be handed over to motherless babies homes, while offenders will be prosecuted.

A spokesman for Opobo-Nkoro Chiefs, Alabo Godwin Bupo told Governor Wike that the people prefer sandfilling project to protect the area.

Over two thousand Chiefs, Youths and Women from Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area attended the interactive session with Governor Wike.
