Twenty Three People mostly Youths have been alleged to have died while going for a Pro-Wike’s Rally organized by the 1MillionYouth4NewRiversState on Saturday 28th July 2018.
It was gathered that the unfortunate incident happened when their boat lost control in Bakana, on their way to the Degema Chapter of the Imillion Youth 4 New Rivers State Rally.
Although the Cordinator of the Group and Lawmaker Representing Ahoada East Constituency two at the Rivers State House of Assembly Hon Ehie Edison did not pick several calls PUO REPORTS forwarded to his phone number on Monday,the group said those who lost their lives were not members of the Body.
A Statement extracted from the FACEBOOK page of the Lawmaker on monday morning said the Imillion Youth 4Newrivers Does not mobilize people from other Local Government Areas during their Rallies.
”Our organization did not lose anyone in the boat mishap.
”Attendees of our Organization’s Local Government Sensitization Rallies, apart from the core technical team, are drawn from among each Local Government visited. As such, it is not our practice to mobilize members of other Local Government Areas to attend rallies in LGAs other than theirs”.
”My Condolence message of Sunday, July 29, 2018 was to the bereaved families of the incident as should be the norm in a society that cares for itself. It was not a first of its kind and would not be the last because I truly care about people”. He Said
While urging all Land and Waterways Transport Service providers in Rivers State to abide by the highest safety standards in the sector, Mr Edison assured the general public that as a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, he will work with his colleagues to ensure a probe into the immediate and remote causes of the boat mishap in order to ensure our people are not exposed to avoidable accidents.
