About 10,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ndokwa East, and Ndokwa West local government areas of Delta state on Monday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The angry defectors, who came with brooms and APC membership cards to an open field in Kwale town, headquarters of Ndokwa West local government council, set the items ablaze, including the flag of the APC.

Addressing the defectors, PDP chairman in the area, Mr. Emmanuel
Egbamuno welcomed them, stressing that although automatic tickets were recently ruled out for those who defected to the party, the party is committed to ensuring that they are treated the same way as the old members.

He described their decision to embrace PDP as wise, pointing out that the APC, as the ruling party at the national level, had in the last three years misled Nigerians.

Egbamuno assured the decampees of equal recognition, benefit with older members of the party

While warning them against anti-party activities, he called on leaders of the party in the areas to embrace the defectors with open hands, and provide them with equal opportunity for them to contribute towards moving the party forward in the areas.

Egbamuno assured that the PDP will do everything possible to rescue Nigerians from the failing hands of APC.

Two of the decampees, Abel Overa, and Enofoke Enase, who spoke to DAILY POST, said that they took the decision to leave APC because the party has lost focus, and grip of their local government area, and Delta state

They explained that the APC at the federal level has failed to address the recklessness of rampaging herdsmen, regretting that they have been waiting in vain for the change they expected, and voted for in 2015.

The defectors said, “We have decided to leave APC because of corruption, and killing of innocent persons by the herdsmen. We were no longer comfortable with the party.”
