Work Progresses At Real Madrid Football Academy In Port Harcourt

The Rivers State Government has intensified work on the construction of the Real Madrid Football Academy in Port Harcourt.

The facility which is situated at the precincts of the Yakubu Gowon Stadium has reached about 40 percent completion stage.

Construction of the Real Madrid Football Academy was flagged off by the President of Confederation of African Football (CAF), Mr Ahmed Ahmed after the Rivers State Government and Real Madrid Football Club signed a memorandum of understanding at the Government House Port Harcourt on May 27, 2018.

Project Site Engineer, Jude Amaechi told journalists that construction work will be concluded in December 2018.

He said work slowed down on the major aspects of the project due to heavy rain. He added that since the rains subsided, work has intensified and high percentage of milestone has been attained.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has been involved in the direct monitoring of work at the facility, which is expected to empower youths and create international football stars.

Governor Wike initiated the Real Madrid Football Academy and personally engaged with the management of the best football club to ensure the siting of the Academy in Port Harcourt.
