Senate committee visits National Open University of Nigeria on oversight

The senate committee on tertiary education and Tetfund has this afternoon visited the headquarters of the university on an oversight to assess the performance of the 2017/2018 budget.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Barau Jibrin [APC, Kano], said their visit was in line with the senate resolution for committees to oversight their MDAs and report back for deliberations.

He said the aim of the oversight was to assess the implementation of the university’s budget law as well as check books and other important aspects of the university.

He commended the management for the strides being recorded in various aspects and urged them to sustain the tempo in terms of championing the ODL education in Nigeria.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu, while responding, welcomed the senators to the university and expressed his readiness to corporate with them in performing their second leg of their legislative functions.

He briefly listed some of the achievements of the university and handed over the detailed tabulated performance of the 2017/2018 budget as requested by the committee chairman.

He commended the senators for the passage of the amendments to the NOUN Act, which will make it possible to finalize the plan to float a PGD in ODL in the West African region.

Other members of the committee present; Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi) and Senator Clifford Odia (Edo) as well as the committee clerk and other secretarial members.
